  • Mike Brown Enrique Omar - Definitely NOT the same quality. NOT EVEN THE SAME SHAPE. The extension pieces are not interchangeable. The bolts are not rated the same. The paint is not the same. It is the perfect example of intellectual property theft from a US company.

Stanton does get some of their parts from China, but they machine a lot of their parts at their facility in Phoenix Arizona.

I ran an ST Jib (Andy Jib) for a reality show on the Discovery Channel a couple of months ago, and could tell immediately that the quality is not the same. It is definitely a cheaply-built product. Even the strut cables are not rated the same, and are not crimped the same. I did not feel safe operating it.

Mike Brown Enrique Omar - all of the electronic functions feel completely different. The ramp and speed in the joystick have a strange feel. It’s not as responsive. The control box was not compatible with Canon’s 20-pin port on their new broadcast lenses... even with an adapter. They use some sort of breakout adapter box on the remote head. The owner of the Andy Jib had to ghetto-rig something to make the zoom work that didn’t make sense. Focus seemed normal. Booming the arm seemed normal. The tripod, wheels, aluminum, bolts, everything just felt cheap to the touch.
Mike Brown Rob Brown - the shape of the triangle isn’t even the same. Stanton’s edges are round, and ST’s edges have distinct corners. The assembly bolts (lock plugs) are lightweight and not as strong.
    Stanton’s electronics are 24V (+-12V), and ST’s electronics are straight 12V.
The silk screening on the controllers is different. The knobs are different. Even the textured grip on the handles is different.
The umbilical control cable extensions are 100% manufactured in the USA, and Stanton has replaced the low-quality video cables with 3G HD-SDI cables.

There is so much more. It is not the same jib.

Christopher Schutz The jimmy jib components sold by ST video may or may not be (close to) identical depending on the part. I’ve gotten motors from them that look very similar until you open them up. They have a much different feel and are not nearly as smooth. Also much much noisier. Like you can hear the pan/tilt motor from 15 feet away.
Mike Brown Ian Brown - really? Not reverse-engineered? The Jimmy Jib Triangle and parts were invented and patented by Jim Stanton in the US in 1997. The only way anyone can make a triangle jib is through intellectual property theft.
Joseph Walsh I have to ask how much ST Video is paying Rob Brown to shill for them... for those that are not aware ST Video is a Chinese company that makes their money by reproducing cheaper versions of existing film and video equipment, like copying Sachtler fluid heads and sticks as well as the Jimmy Jib... calling it the 'Eagle Crane", their crane is a complete rip off of the Stanton Jimmy Jib Triangle, just with slightly inferior materials... it's complete theft of intellectual property... I spoke with Jim Stanton about this once... he said that he gave up trying to fight ST Video because, as an international company, they were virtually impossible to sue for damages or injunctions. I almost got thrown out of Cinegear one year when I confronted the St Video reps about the issue... as you can see from my profile pic I'm a Cammate Operator, but the outright theft of the Jimmy Jib design still angers me as an American. I had a Facebook friend who bought two of the Chinese rip offs... I unfriended him on the spot... if I ever see one of these being used on a set you can believe that I will have a conversation with the operator to see if he's also the owner... if he's the owner he just made an enemy in this industry, pure and simple. This is all just my humble opinion, of course...
